Holiday movie pick - Arthur Christmas (2011)
Arthur Christmas sets out to answer the question, "How does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?" (Here's a hint: It's like a military operation.) It's also about a family, in this case the "Christmas" family, including two brothers, Arthur and Steve. When one child is inadvertently missed during the Christmas delivery mission, the two brothers disagree about how to deal with the crisis.
Arthur Christmas was produced by Aardman, the Oscar-winning animation wizards who brought us Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Flushed Away, and a few others, but it uses 3-D instead of stop motion animation. One of the problems with the film is the name. When I first saw it, I thought it was about the PBS character Arthur. Now that I've seen it, I understand why Arthur is a good name.
I think once people see this film, they'll agree it's one of the best Christmas films in recent years. I'll go so far as to predict this movie will go on to be a classic.
